My name is Jimmy Joyner and I live on Johns Island.  My interest in astronomy began at the age of     thirteen when I received my first telescope.  Back then, people still believed there were canals on mars   and the possibility of intelligent life.  No space crafts had been sent to the distant planets and nobody      had walked on the moon.  The moons of Jupiter were still believed to all be barren rocks like our moon and the discovery of Pluto was only thirty years old.  The science of astronomy has come a long way     since then.

I started this web site with the hope of raising interest in astronomy, especially among the students in   the area.  I also invite schools to contact me for any assistance in this field or to possibly set up an          observing night.

In this site I have provided a photo gallery with pictures I have taken, and encourage others to send    me their astrophotography or maybe just pictures of a night out observing so that I can post them too.    I  also have included a page with pictures from the Hubble telescope, a page to help you decide the       right telescope to buy and one to provide information that should be helpful for the beginner. There's a    page on  books and publications that are helpful or just fun to look at, and a page showing my               telescope setup.
